A second, more modern, approach to building reticella is to punty a single glass rod (the orange rod) onto the end of the two rods to be twisted, instead of using tweezers. The remainder of the process proceeds as normal (twist and stretch). I am not aware of any archaeological evidence to support this method during the viking age.
