Iron Experiment - Nov 2010

large pic »
2nd layer of bricks, with tuyere brick (with hole) visible. The wire in the bottom left is to help hold the courses of brick together during the build. The whole unit rests on cinder blocks filled with ash. The blocks can be pried open during a smelt and the ash raked out to allow the slag bowl to settle or to tap it. The tuyere sits ready on the left of the photo.
