Kieren does his Ray Charles impression on the bellows while Anneka lectures on how a bead is made. The furnace is a teapot design. The poorly fitted lid came from an experiment where the bottom was constructed on a form while the top was made separately. Both base and lid rapidly developed serious cracks. Instead of removing the lid to reload the charcoal, we shifted to charging it through the chimney. In the foreground a second furnace based on the oval of hearth ÆZ from Ribe sits ready in case it was needed.
