Fire zones within the furnace. On the left in the distance (middle of the furnace) is a yellow zone. This is the area the air enters and is the hotest part of the furnace. On the right at the same distance is a red zone. Usually this area is orange and is good for working the glass. When we adjust the charcoal without reloading we are pushing charcoal from the orange zone to the yellow zone where it was being consumed. In this case we had recently reloaded a lot of charcoal which had not yet fully ignited. The space closest to the door is more black than coloured and is the coolest area. Generally this zone is at a red heat. Glass will heat here but due to the size of the door it is always marginal and slow.
