Tapping the slag -- first shot. Note how the bottom of the slag bowl is about even with the top of the tapping arch.(Look for the hot area to the right of the image) Later the relationship between height of the tuyere above base and its angle to the 'hot spot' and the formation of the slag bowl would become more clear. This furnace configuration would have likely produced a bloom if the burn through had not 'crashed' the internal temperatures.
