Positioning a second external metal form. The cob was added in fist sized lumps to build up the smelter wall. After a fair amount of work, it was descovered that pushing new lumps to the top edge was spreading the bottom material out almost as much as raising the walls taller. It was getting late in the afternoon, and there was concern that there would not be enough raw material available at the rate we were progressing. You can also see the smaller stones that were used to frame in the pipe tuyere in place. To help establish an even spacing between to the two flexible metal forms, a number of small sticks were used. Two can be seen towards the left. Previous Report Next Text © Darrell Markewitz, 2017 Photographs © Karen Peterson, 2017 Copyright details Contact us |
