Preparing to Tap Slag Sound played an important role in this smelt Here the bellows was linked directly to the tuyere, so care had to be taken if a 'fluttering' sound was heard. This signified the liquid slag was starting to block the flow of air into the smelter, and some of it needed to be drained off.
