A close-up of the air hole. Even worse than last time the slag was blocking the air hole as it cooled. In this case the slag has produced not just a flat insert but an upwards curing ramp. The upward curve came as a result of bubbles forming in the slag, then cooling when the air hit the thin wall of the bubble. This would have a significant impact on the air within the smelt.
