| Since this smelter was built around a bundle of sticks a final required step was to remove the sticks and smooth out the inside. The photo shows not only the indents from the sticks but also how poorly the individual pieces of cob were joined on the inner surface. If that wasn't repaired the smelter could crack at each of those points. Previous
