Prepratory demo & smelt leading up to the visit to L'Anse aux Meadows, NHSC

2010 marked the 50th aniversary of the discovery of the norse buildings at L'Anse aux Meadows. To celebrate that aniversary Parks Canada put on a number of activities. Their August activity was to bring in DARC to extend the existing interpretative program. As a part of our preparations to participate in that DARC set up a demo camp at Vinderheima open to the public.

This event also invluded one of the iron smelts in the series leading up tot he smelt at L'Anse aux Meadows. The full report is available here.

The day was intermittantly raining so many activities started and stopped, or moved into some shelters. The kitchen area was a popular place for the textile folks to gather.
