In 2000 Newfoundland celebrated the 1000th aniversary of the vikings. A new tourist site was built across the road from the L'Anse aux Meadows site, and DARC was invited up to work at this site - the only Canadian group asked to participate.

The weather wasn't good but the experience was not one I'd have missed. Good
people, a chance to raise sail, sailing into the fjord at L'Anse aux Meadows,
and all in costume.
Perhaps the most interesting element was a fluke. We were all in costume and
we found that the multiple layers of wool and linen were very comfortable.
After our trip we stopped by out usual dinner spot. We all stripped off the
outermost 3 or 4 layers and piled them in the corner. It smelled like a flock
of sheep in there....
